Affordability of Housing Energy Costs
Definition
Percent of households in Bridgewater who self-report having difficulty affording their home energy costs.
Why This Matters
Home energy costs include what a household pays for to heat and power their home. Energy costs can be a big factor in the overall costs of a home. It is important for the Town to understand how many household are experiencing difficulty affording home energy costs so that we can make policies that reduce the cost burden for households.
Measurement and Limitations
Difficulty affording home energy costs are subjective, meaning that people may have different perspectives on what it means to have difficulty affording home energy. Our information on the number of households that experience difficulty affording home energy costs is based on responses to a bi-annual survey that is sent to every household in Bridgewater. Based on the total amount of surveys received, we count how many households have said they experience difficulty affording home energy costs and then calculate a percentage. Not all households respond to the survey, which means the results are based on the answers of a portion of our population.
